Evolution immediately after loss is intense and fast. We change rapidly — it is almost like you are reborn. I call it reentry, but nobody really tells you about this. Grief is an evolutionary experience: it hurts so much it changes our DNA. It changes our thoughts, our emotions, even our taste buds. Everything we were made of gets unmade.
But no matter how many selves we occupy after loss, we have to find our way back to our Original Self — I write about this in my book Invisible Loss. It's not linear, and it's not easy. But we can do it. Yes, we can.
